Scholars of Color- Aaron Clark
What is Scholars of Color?
It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.
Let us now welcome Aaron Clark to the Scholars of Color space!
Name: Aaron Clark
Gender Pronouns: He/Him/His
What do you currently do for work and/or school?: Oversee and direct Housing & Residence Life Department at Dominican University of California
Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: Light-hearted and a Goofball some of the time; Authentic and Unapologetic ALL of the time!
What are you passionate about?: Social Justice; Blackness (as both a culture and way of life); Issues affecting the California's African-American community; Residence Life; Empowering people with long-term medical issues; My faith (Christianity).
Why is the representation of scholars of color important to you?: Primarily because Students of Color (who now represent a majority at many, if not most institutions in the State of California) need to see themselves in the people serving them. There has long been an inequality in representation between student populations and the faculty/staff who serve them. To see that changing, and to be a part of that change, is both powerful and empowering.
If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?: The Gram: 'kool_like_ac'; Work e-mail: aaron.clark@dominican.edu
Anything else you would like us to know?: As Scholars of Color, us getting our degrees and establishing our careers shouldn't be the "Finish Line". In fact, that's where the race actually begins. Let's be sure to reach back and offer our care, support, and guidance to aspiring Scholars of Color who have their own ideas for ways to positively contribute to the world of Student Affairs.
Thank you Aaron for sharing space with us!
