Scholars of Color- Benedicto Llave

What is Scholars of Color?

It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.

Let us now welcome Benedicto Llave to the Scholars of Color space!

Name: Benedicto Llave

Gender Pronouns: he/him/his

What do you currently do for work and/or school?: I work as Program Coordinator for the Asian American/Pacific Islander Resource Center (AA/PIRC), at UC Santa Cruz, which occupies Amah Mutsun land.

Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: I hold healing, self-determination, and wholeness as core values of mine both within and expansive of work. I believe it is important to practice modelling these values while also espousing them. I love reflecting through journaling and one on one convos, playing tennis, and moving slowly in the world.

What are you passionate about?: I am passionate about individual and collective healing, especially with hxstorically marginalized communities, as a queer person of Color and child of immigrants. I’m also passionate about taking my 12-1 lunch breaks, drinking water, and sleeping 8+ hours a night. Healing my relationship with rest is important to me.

Why is the representation of scholars of color important to you?: Having space to uplift marginalized voices, directed towards healing feels important to me.

If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?: Connect with me on LinkedIn, or over email and we can go from there! www.linkedin.com/in/benedicto-llave or bllave@ucsc.edu.

Anything else you would like us to know?: Nothing else~

Thank you Benedicto for sharing space with us!
