Scholars of Color- Jessica Monge
What is Scholars of Color?
It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.
Let us now welcome Jessica Monge to the Scholars of Color space!
Name: Jessica Monge
Location: Long Island, NY
Gender Pronouns: she/her/Ella
What's your current occupation? (i.e. Student, Scientist, Coach, In transition, etc.): Registered Behavior Technician
Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: As a Mental Health Advocate, an activist for all human rights, thrill seeker, nomad, washed up college athlete (soccer), breaker of generational trauma.
What are you passionate about?: I am passionate of creating and being a safe space for everyone, but more urgently, for women of sexual abuse, assault or harassment. These women are currently my priority, but I do not dismiss the fact that the he's, they's and he's also deserve a safe space. I'm just working one step at a time. Also super passionate about protecting and helping immigrant children.
What does the representation of Scholars of Color mean to you?: It means that others who do not see themselves represented in the media, careers or in their passions can finally have a place to stop searching. Here in Scholars of Color they are highlighting much more than just an achievement in education, but overall achievement and this is important for those who are successful outside of the "traditional" college or 9-5 route. People of color can be successful in whatever they set their mind to and it is very well represented here.
If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?: The best place to reach me is via Instagram DM on @CipotaColocha. If you do not have instagram you can email me at jessicailianam@gmail.com
Anything else you would like us to know?: I am very passionate about mental health, as aforementioned. Growing up mental health had a bad stigma and as I am trying to break those barriers I have found another obstacle: affordable health insurance. Although I am lucky enough to have insurance I also find myself tied to a certain salary bracket in order to not lose this "affordable" health insurance. Point being I will be partnering with a health care sharing company to help those in need of mental health service (or health care in general). Do not hesitate to contact me if would like to get more information on this. I also have free journal prompts for sexual assault survivors and a free guide to find a therapist with insurance. I will be working on more free resources for you soon. To stay up to date please follow my instagram @CipotaColocha.
Thank you Jessica Monge for sharing space with us!
