It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.

Name: Michael Lemus

What do you currently do for work and/or school?: I currently work for the state of California in training and outreach related to statewide financial aid. I am also the Founder/CEO of Reclaiming Your Happiness with Lemus and developed Scholars of Color.
Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: At the core of my being, I am an empath and spiritual healer . I am of my ancestors blood and magic. My sun sign is in Scorpio and my moon and rising signs are both in Aries. I would describe myself as resilient, transparent, and a bridge builder. I am also a visionary. Last but not least, I am a son, a partner, an advocate and an educator at heart.
What are you passionate about?: The pillars of my platform do a great job at letting people know what I’m passionate about.The pillars, which spell out ARISE, stands for Advocacy, Reclaiming Your Power, Inclusion, Spirituality, and Empowerment.
Why is the representation of scholars of color important to you?: The representation of scholars of color is important to me because our stories need to be heard. Our identities need to be celebrated because they are worth taking up space. We deserve to be seen, heard, and admired for all the resiliency we carry amongst our bloodlines. I created Scholars of Color because I had not yet seen a space where PoC of all backgrounds are celebrated front and center. This goes beyond me. This is about us and purposefully centering our narratives.

Anything else you would like us to know?: Scholars of Color is a dream come true. For years, I had wanted to build a platform in which scholars of color would be purposefully celebrated. I envisioned a space where scholars of color would be showcased front and center. When I envisioned this project, I pictured a digital space where we felt empowered and resilient.
I also envisioned a space where the word Scholar is redefined. I want this word to be inclusive of people from all backgrounds, encompassing anyone that has something to teach or offer the world. Yes this means educators, but it also means spiritual healers, musicians, business owners, etc.
Now that Scholars of Color exists, I want us get to know each other. I want us to cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.
