What is Scholars of Color?

It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.

Let us now welcome Michelle Jalali to the Scholars of Color space!

Gender Pronouns: she,her,hers

What's your current occupation? (i.e. Student, Scientist, Coach, In transition, etc.): Trauma-informed DEI Consultant & Coach

Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: I am a loving leader, starter of difficult conversations, a human-centric vessel for identity exploration and healing and I have a versatile style and personality. I am a daughter, partner, sister, friend, mentor, and proud dog mom. I am a celebrator of resilience, ancestors, and culture.

What are you passionate about?: With Jamaican and Indian DNA, I am passionate about all things great music, spicy food, and cultural competency. I am passionate about people using their pronouns, breaking down systems of oppression for the protection of Black and Brown bodies, body autonomy around pregnancy, intersectional feminism, helping folx feel empowered in their learning and unlearning, and amplifying voices! I am also so passionate about being a forever student.

What does the representation of Scholars of Color mean to you?: There is something so special about a platform that strictly showcases people of color in a way that amplifies our successes and passion areas. Scholars of Color serves as an intentional representation to remind us of our "why". We are the generation of pushing back,of combating harmful practices, of teaching our students how to advocate for themselves in ways that many of us learned later on in life. Scholars of Color are often at the forefront of breaking down barriers, creating trauma-sensitivity in the workplace, and enforcing curriculum that is non-white, non-heteronormative, and non-colonist so that our students are receiving real and impactful imformation.

If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?: SLIDEEE in my DMs on Instagram @jalaliconsulting, email me at michelle@jalaliconsulting.com!

Anything else you would like us to know?: I'm grateful to be a DEI Consultant, Coach, and Facilitator. Platforms like these remind me that I do this for a reason much larger than myself. If I could leave one piece of knowledge, I would remind anyone who is reading this that your voice and story can create significant change.

One last thing... Breaking generational curses is hard. Rest, laugh, pray, connect, affirm, and keep going.

Thank you Michelle for sharing space with us!

Stay tuned everyone for more Scholars of Color profiles. Interested in being showcased yourself? Please email the Scholars of Color team at scholarsofcolor@reclaimingyourhappiness.com and we will get back to you shortly.
