What is Scholars of Color?
It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.
Let us now welcome Carmen Flores to the Scholars of Color space!
Name: Carmen Flores
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Gender Pronouns: she/her/hers
What's your current occupation? (i.e. Student, Scientist, Coach, In transition, etc.): Previous Cannabis Exec Rep currently in transition to working in Media Marketing!
Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: Happy and positive are two of the most common words my friends use to describe me. My peace will always come first. Because I've worked through a good amount of trauma and come out the other side as a happy person, it's not hard for me to see the upside of things! I'm a great hype woman to have in your corner, I just want everyone who is kind and striving for something bigger than themselves to WIN!! Most that know me know I'm the queen of self-care. What's that, go out? No I had a stressful day, I'll be treating myself to a bath, tea and most likely Star Wars or a book lol. Cheers to my fellow nerds!
What are you passionate about?: I am extremely passionate about healing-of-self because the world needs authenticity and for us to return to ourselves. I am starting to create space on multiple platforms sharing my experiences about abuse, trauma and healing with a side serving of humor. I hope to create a community where healing people feel safe, supported & encouraged to find their joy again. I spent many years in deep depression and in the wrong environments. I've returned to myself and it's the happiest and most at peace I've ever felt in my life. I hope to help other people find their giddiness and peace again.
What does the representation of Scholars of Color mean to you?: I had no idea what would be presented on this platform when Michael told me about it... It's everything I wish I saw growing up as a Latina WOC in a rural Indiana town. I'm so happy to see fellow queers and BIPOC community be represented, supported and celebrated! It's a beautiful thing. I want nothing more than this kind of energy to SPREAD everywhere! Thank you so much for including me to be a part of this amazing mission.
If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?: You can find me on Instagram & TikTok under @carmenreneflores, Twitter as @CFloProductions, Snapchat as @carmenflores369, LinkedIn and Facebook as Carmen Rene Flores - and I will be building my Youtube channel & Pinterest channels this month.
Anything else you would like us to know?: YASS! Something for the people who are trying to return to themselves - listen to & take action on your curiosities. I started rollerskating this year at 31, failed a lot but now I'm not falling anymore lol. I sold my viola (I only kept it out of obligation to an old version of me) and I'm buying a CELLO next month! I'm reading about platform languages. I want to be able to provide value to people in the best way on every app and that may help people see content that could help them heal. I also did my first sound bath and breath work sessions this year - it was amazing. Soon I'll start dance classes. Why? Just because it will make me smile. FOLLOW YOUR CURIOSITIES and FAIL AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN!
Thank you Sandra for sharing space with us!
