Name: Connie Oh

Location:  Orange County, CA

Gender Pronouns: she/her/hers

What's your current occupation? (i.e. Student, Scientist, Coach, In transition, etc.): Student Affairs and DEI Professional in Higher Education

Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: I am an advocate for students and their success in our institutions of higher education. My goal is to help students - particularly students who have been historically minoritized in the fields of STEM, healthcare, and public health - achieve their educational goals and ultimately contribute to their communities in meaningful ways after college. This usually involves empathetic listening, problem-solving, and creative thinking around inclusive excellence. Outside of work, I am a partner, daughter, and lifelong learner. I love exploring new places, cultures, and knowledge to grow as a human being.

What are you passionate about?: I am passionate about advocating for students, particularly students of color, first-generation students, and immigrant students. I am also passionate about storytelling by communities of color and practicing care for my communities and loved ones.

What does the representation of Scholars of Color mean to you?: As someone who was also a first-generation, immigrant student, I know how important it is to have Scholars of Color who will advocate for and uplift the voices of our minoritized students and communities. I also had a Scholar of Color/Mentor in college who understood my struggles as a first-gen, Asian American student from a working-class background, and she empowered me to pursue my passion for justice and equity after college. Scholars of Color show that our communities are powerful and important and help lead the way for the next generation.

If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?:  People can reach me at LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/in/connie-oh-1909/.

Anything else you would like us to know?: I love connecting with new folks, so please feel free to reach out to me.

Thank you Connie for sharing space with us!
