What is Scholars of Color?

It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.

Let us now welcome Mayra Salinas to the Scholars of Color space!

Name: Mayra Salinas

Location: New York, NY

Gender Pronouns: she/her/ella

What's your current occupation? (i.e. Student, Scientist, Coach, In transition, etc.): Higher Education Professional. Entrepreneur. Professional & Executive Coach.

Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: I would describe myself as casual, fun and informative. I'm a motivator, connector and learner who enjoys getting to KNOW new people, CONNECT to people/resources/opportunities and EMPOWER them along the way. I give off "cool but wise older prima" vibes and I'm here for it.

What are you passionate about?: I'm passionate about learning and growth! I love professional development and all things self-care. I think my newest love is connecting with people through professional coaching, educating about the process, and experiencing my clients grow through change. Witnessing my clients have those "aha" moments is priceless.

What does the representation of Scholars of Color mean to you?: It's a community where people of color are not just getting a seat at the table, they're creating the table! It's a beautiful representation of success, resilience and growth. It's a vessel where POCs are welcomed, celebrated and loved. It gives me hope and makes my corazon smile. Scholars of Color = Representation.

Thank you Mayra for sharing space with us!
