Scholars of Color- Ross Victory

What is Scholars of Color?

It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.

Let us now welcome Ross Victory to the Scholars of Color space!

Name: Ross Victory

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Gender Pronouns: He/him

What's your current occupation? (i.e. Student, Scientist, Coach, In transition, etc.): Program Manager at UCLA, Educator

Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: Life student, problem solver, and creative

What are you passionate about?: I'm passionate about empowering students, specifically LGBTQ youth, specifically bi+ youth and young adults to be the full selves and command respect and recognition from the status quo. My empowerment tends to come in encouraging words, but I also I assist with interview skills, resume review, and tips to complete passion projects. Personally, I'm passionate about using (and showing others how to use) creative writing as a self help tool for self discovery. Writing gives us permission to express and release. If we share it, we also can inspire others and entertain them! International travel and exploration has been a big source of empowerment since I was a small child. Travel gives us the opportunity to expand our mind by visiting and discovering new places, cultures, and food. Travel forces you to adapt and get out of your comfort zone. If more people traveled (even locally or regionally), there would be more empathy.

What does the representation of Scholars of Color mean to you?: Scholars of Color represents possibility. The more "possibility models" we see in the landscape, the more alternative narratives are possible for the next generation. Scholars of Color are also positioned to inspire youth and other people of color to challenge the status quo by their sheer existence.

If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?:  My website: www.rossvictory.com or through Instagram @rossvictorious

Anything else you would like us to know?: Fun facts: My first job after college was in Seoul, South Korea as an English teacher. I have over five years experience teaching non-native English speakers English at all levels. Little did I know, that teaching English would open up opportunities for me to write and publish 6 of my own books.

Thank you Ross for sharing space with us!

Stay tuned everyone for more Scholars of Color profiles. Interested in being showcased yourself? Please email the Scholars of Color team at scholarsofcolor@reclaimingyourhappiness.com and we will get back to you shortly.
