What is Scholars of Color?

It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.

Let us now welcome Ebony Harper to the Scholars of Color Space!

Name: Ebony Ava Harper

Gender Pronouns: She/Her

What do you currently do for work and/or school?: I'm an advocate for transgender health equity, economic development, and a fair chance to thrive.

Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: I'm complicated like all humans. I'm a lover of humans, which fuels my life work. I see the importance of challenging systems of oppression, so you'll often see me in the streets or rally. Spirituality is important to me, so I'm usually in my spiritual community, recuperating from all the junk I get in the world. I like creating, whether it's events for queer people of color or having fun with a photoshoot. I call myself an earth traveler, I love taking a look at other cultures and how they live and thrive.

What are you passionate about?: I'm passionate about dismantling all systems of oppression. Oppression is so ingrained in our social structure; we have come to believe and accept the way humans are being treated is by their own folly. I want to stop the pain and abuse on a massive scale by challenging what is and working on the ways I show up in this world. I believe World Peace is achievable, but first, we must dismantle all the destruction.

Why is the representation of scholars of color important to you?: There are so many false narratives surrounding people of color. I believe one way to combat that is by giving us the agency to tell our own stories. We are mighty, beautiful, and we are scholars.

If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?: I'm all over social media all you have to do is Google me

Anything else you would like us to know?: Love is the most significant power on this planet. In a time where being mean to each other is celebrated, we must combat that with love to ensure our survival. We all have access to an inward power, more powerful than we could ever imagine. I don't want to seem preachy. I'm actually continually reminding myself. The illusion of separation is the biggest scam known to man. The truth is, Black, Latinx, API, Queer, Straight, Trans, Cis, Disabled, Able-Bodied, we're all one... There's something bigger at play that we need to tap in to!

Thank you Ebony for sharing space with us!
