Scholars of Color- Maisune Abu-Elhaija
What is Scholars of Color?
It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.
Let us now welcome Maisune Abu-Elhaija to the Scholars of Color Space!
Name: Maisune Abu-Elhaija
Gender Pronouns: She/Her/Hers
What do you currently do for work and/or school?: Educator and International Student Affairs Professional
Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: Lifelong Student
What are you passionate about?: I am passionate about viewing the world from a non-American lens. This has always been a passion of mine but more recently, I have realized that we live in a USA bubble and even the most progressive corners of higher education see the world from a singular, national lens. I finally found the words to articulate this passion and how I structurally connect both international affairs with American higher education (and I don't mean admission of international students).
Why is the representation of scholars of color important to you?: It acknowledges the current imbalance of representation. I look forward to the day where a scholar doesn't flash an old, white man visual.
If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?: Email or LinkedIn
Anything else you would like us to know?: We're taught to "persist the nonetheless" for strength in places we don't belong and we need to learn that walking away when a system does not value you is just as strong.
Thank you Maisune for sharing space with us!
