It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.

Name: Robert Hassell
Gender Pronouns: HE, HIM, HIS
What do you currently do for work and/or school?: Tennessee State University (Nashville, TN) and American Baptist College (Nashville, TN)
Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: I am colorful, vibrant and high-energy personality. People would describe me as the life and light that comes into any room. They call me the male version of “Ms. Frizzle” or “Willy Wonka” because of my classroom delivery mode, interactions with students, whimsical sayings and insight to acquiring knowledge about various topics/subject matter. I am an explorer, innovator and navigator of impossibility to arrive at a creative reality.
What are you passionate about?: I am passionate about placing people in environments to recognize their call, cultivating their passion through intentional experiences and interactions, and supporting them as they walk out their intended path to fulfilling their life’s purpose on every level. Everyone is called to something. We all must be, so that everyone can become!
Why is the representation of scholars of color important to you?: The representation of Scholars of Color is important to me because there is a necessity for diversity within The Academy. Too long we have been behind the scenes and unable to access the power found in university and togetherness. We must extend ourselves to collaborative and collective efforts to strengthen innovation within The Academy. There is a call for diverse perspectives that expand our horizons of understanding and the way we disperse knowledge (academic, social and psychological) to the next generation. We have a responsibility to emerge and show people that were are present and making an impact on our world.
