What is Scholars of Color?
It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.
Let us now welcome Vanessa Gonzalez to the Scholars of Color space!
Name: Vanessa Gonzalez
Gender Pronouns: She
What do you currently do for work and/or school?: Regional Supervisor for Los Angeles Expanded Learning Programs
Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: Enthusiastic, good hearted, curious, open handed and fair minded
What are you passionate about?: Education, culture and growth
Why is the representation of scholars of color important to you?: Growing up I was always told I was the "güerita" and it wasn't until I attended my first undergraduate class did I feel "brown." To me it's important to have scholars of color represented because we never know if there is someone looking up to us or for us. We may feel isolated on our path and it's not until we connect with our people do we feel uplifted.
If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?: vgonzal82@gmail.com ; linkedin.com/in/vgonzal82
Anything else you would like us to know?:Échale ganas, I survived my doctoral program because I connected with like minded people that chased the same goals as I did. If it wasn't for my community, I wouldn't have made it out alive. Por Ellis, para Ellis.
Thank you Vanessa for sharing space with us!
