Scholars of Color- Guillermo Raya
What is Scholars of Color?
It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.
Let us now welcome Guillermo Raya to the Scholars of Color space!
Name: Guillermo Raya
Location: Washington DC
Gender Pronouns: He/Him
What's your current occupation? (i.e. Student, Scientist, Coach, In transition, etc.): Director of Learning and Innovation
Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: I would describe myself as ambitious and driven to make a difference in the space of equity and access. Along side that, I would genuinely say that I am a big supporter of helping others develop themselves.
What are you passionate about?: My biggest cause to action call would have to be Education. As a first-generation, limited income student myself I know the academic/personal challenges when entering the world of Academia - and its not easy.
What does the representation of Scholars of Color mean to you?: Knowing and understanding that my experiences mirror those of other students - but also being able to provide guidance, support and reassurance to those going through a similar experience.
If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?: Yes! My email contact is graya@chci.org
Anything else you would like us to know?: I am a very proud TRIO (Student Support Services), College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), Student Action with Farmworkers (SAF), and The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Alumni - all programs that made an impact on me.
Thank you Guillermo for sharing space with us!
