What is Scholars of Color?
It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.

Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: resilient, courageous
What are you passionate about?: Non-profit management, reproductive justice, mental health, and youth development
What does the representation of Scholars of Color mean to you?: It shows we aren't "marginalized" because of our identity. We are our ancestors wildest dream and this platform exemplifies that.

Anything else you would like us to know?: Makayla Dawkins is a junior from the inner city of New Haven, CT. She is studying Gender, Sexuality, and Reproduction Studies at the University of Connecticut. When she isn't studying, she is serving with USG Student Services as a Sexual Health and Education Advocacy Coordinator where she has implemented a menstrual care package program and created legislation in solidarity with UConn’s queer community. She can also be found fulfilling her role as a Residential Assistant in the Arts learning communities or working with LGBTQ folks at Rainbow Center. She hopes to become a Healthcare Administrator overseeing a health facility and researching HIV and sexual behavior. She also hopes to serve families impacted by incarceration. As a child of an incarcerated parent, Makayla serves as an intern of Free All My Suns Inc., a nonprofit that connects families to the imprisoned and oversees their various programs. She hopes to establish a mentoring program for students with incarcerated parents.
