Scholars of Color- Steven Underwood
What is Scholars of Color?
It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.
Let us now welcome Steven Underwood to the Scholars of Color space!
Name: Steven Underwood
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Gender Pronouns: He/Him
What's your current occupation? (i.e. Student, Scientist, Coach, In transition, etc.): Writer
Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: Tenacious, Whimsical, Inquisitive, Serious
What are you passionate about?: Black Art and Culture, Fiction and Cultural Paradigm
What does the representation of Scholars of Color mean to you?: Academic spaces are often inherently saturated with conflict for People of Color. Potentially, this is because these spaces were never intended to consider our Points of View on the matters they investigate; potentially because it forces institutions to confront the reasons they joined a discipline was not as altruistic or harmless as they might hope. Regardless, I know representation matters because the voices of our reality is and will always need to be a primary source.
If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?: Twitter and Instagram
Anything else you would like us to know?: I have an upcoming book with Beacon titled “Forever for the Culture: Notes on the Digital Black Arts Renaissance” coming in 2024. Announcement expected for Monday, September 26th.
Thank you Steven for sharing space with us!
