Why is the representation of scholars of color important to you?: I think in a time where privileged White folks are getting their children into college by any means necessary, it behooves us a community to pursue higher education as well. I totally understand the growing trend of distrusting higher ed considering the massive student loan debt and the overwhelming amount of low paying jobs(not to mention shady admission tactics). The system is flawed and needs a massive overhaul. There is also all the information one could learn on google. BUT who is creating the sources that wikipedia cites? Who are the people teaching courses in OUR OWN HISTORY? Are archaeologists from OUTSIDE our community treating our ancestral lands with respect? Do we have enough Doctors and Lawyers treating our communities? Are there enough Art historians and curators in museums and galleries? This is why representation of scholars of color is so important. There is no one best way to learn, your intelligence is not determined by a degree (there are a lot of idiots with Masters 😂) but committing to a craft and contributing to our own communities is vital.

If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?: I'm always creeping on IG my main page @BreBurrito and my design page @burritoaesthetic, also my website breburrito.com

Anything else you would like us to know?: For those young people considering college but unsure, PLEASE TAKE YOUR TIME, take a gap year, shadow careers you want to pursue, take some Gen -ed classes at a community college to build up your credits. Any path you choose is valid and don’t pressure yourself by rushing. 😉

Thank you Breana for sharing space with us!
