Name: Dr. Marquita S. Blades

Email: drblades@drmarquitablades.com

Gender Pronouns: She & Her

What do you currently do for work and/or school?: I do not currently work for a school. I own an education consulting company. I travel nationally and internationally training teachers on effective instructional strategies in all content areas, but mostly science.

Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: I am enthusiastic, energetic, innovative, creative, and professional. I love to read, write, cook, and travel. I am a creature of habit in terms of my work ethic and personal style but I also love going new places and trying new things. Although I am introvert, and don't care to socialize, I do enjoy meeting people in my field and forging meaningful partnerships.

What are you passionate about?: I am passionate about all things related to teaching and learning! I have always loved and respected teachers and always wanted to become one when I grew up. I am also passionate about words - reading and writing. My love of words ultimately led me to co-founding a publishing company. Although I am not in the classroom anymore, I am doing exactly what I love - teaching.

Why is the representation of scholars of color important to you?: The representation of scholars of color is important to me because I didn't see or meet a black female Ph.D. until I was in college. Prior to that, I knew I wanted to earn a doctoral degree but I did not know any black women who actually had one. Representation is also important because many young people think all doctors are physicians. They need to be exposed to all types of doctoral degrees as it may spark an interest in a field they had not previously considered.

If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?: People can reach me via email: drblades@drmarquitablades.com or through FB Messenger: Marquita Smith Blades

Anything else you would like us to know?: N/A
