What is Scholars of Color?

It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.

Name: Henry Ortiz

Gender Pronouns: He/His/Him

What do you currently do for work and/or school?: Henry is a grass-roots social justice organizer fighting oppressive systems through community organizing strategies in California. During his 18 years of incarceration, Henry wrote various curriculum based on trauma and emotional intelligence while facilitating healing workshops to over 2,500 incarcerated men. Today he works with the most oppressed and broken communities as a trainer and Founder of "Trauma Through a Traumatized Perspective" (TTTP) Training Program.

Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: I’m a very outgoing, compassionate, visionary who fights for equality.

What are you passionate about?: I’m passionate about serving my community, playing the guitar and writing songs.

Why is the representation of scholars of color important to you?: Because it gives voice and representation to communities of color who have been oppressed and marginalized.
