What is Scholars of Color?

It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.

Let us now welcome Jose Medina III to the Scholars of Color space!

Name: Jose Medina III

Location:  Merced, California

Gender Pronouns: He, him, his

What's your current occupation? (i.e. Student, Scientist, Coach, In transition, etc.): Graduate Advisor

Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: Determined, Motivated, Friendly, and Family-Oriented

What are you passionate about?: I am passionate about higher education and serving students in California and the Central Valley region. As a second-generation student, I had the privilege of having the support to pursue both my undergraduate and graduate education. I understand that not everyone has this privilege and it inspired my personal mission to advocate for and empower students to reach their full potential both academically and professionally.

What does the representation of Scholars of Color mean to you?: The representation of Scholars of Color means inspiring other folks and showing them that there is always reasons to celebrate. Living in the Central Valley, I have the honor of serving students and families from diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. It is through this service that I learned that there are many inspiring individuals all around our community but sometimes they do not feel as if their accomplishments are important. It is my hope that by continuing my work within the community I can show folks that their stories and accomplishments matter. There is always a reason to celebrate and they should do so with pride.

If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?:  I am happy to connect with folks on Instagram (@JoseLMedinaIII) or LinkedIn www.linkedin.com/in/jmedinaiii

Anything else you would like us to know?: I want to thank Michael Lemus and the Scholars of Colors team for providing a space for folks of color to be recognized. I also want folks to remember that they are valuable and their accomplishments deserve to be celebrated. Never let anyone tell you that you cannot do something. You can do it! I believe in you.

Thank you Jose for sharing space with us!
